Never Again 9066: Lessons from America’s Concentration Camps and a Stand Against Anti-Asian ViolenceNew Exhibition
Organized and presented by Art Center College of Design students and faculty, this exhibition collects works created by ArtCenter students in a spring 2023 studio course led by faculty artists Clement Hanami and Bianca Nozaki-Nasser. The goal of the class was to create public displays, educational materials, and other relevant programs that authentically convey the experience of Japanese Americans who were unconstitutionally detained in World War II-era concentration camps.
Using insights gained from meetings with survivors of the camps (including ArtCenter alumni) and civil liberties experts; and through a visit to the Manzanar National Historic Site; the Never Again 9066 students created artworks and supporting materials that shed light on this historic injustice and connected it to present-day issues such as the recent surge in anti-Asian hate in California. Never Again 9066: Lessons from America’s Concentration Camps and a Stand Against Anti-Asian Violence is presented with the generous support of the California State Library’s Civil Liberties Public Education Program.
