how we are in time and space: Annotations with Patricia Fernández and Matt Siegle

In tandem with the exhibition how we are in time and space: Nancy Buchanan, Marcia Hafif, Barbara T. Smith, a number of artists and arts organizations have been invited to annotate one or more specific works in this exhibition, resulting in new artworks, performances, screenings, talks, and other events. This program will favor annotation over remaking of historic works, initiating a dialogue with the primary exhibition, its artists, and its rich materiality, expanding these connections outward in time and space. Events will take place at various sites over the course of the exhibition.
All programs are free and open to the public.
Sunny Luna House
Location: 59524 Breezy Lane, Yucca Valley, CA 92284
March 20, 2022, 11 AM – 5 PM
Yucca Valley
For how we are in time and space: Annotations, Fernández will welcome visitors to her house which will serve as a temporary exhibition site for new and ongoing bodies of work. Since September 2017, Patricia Fernández has lived and worked in Yucca Valley, initially staying in a small trailer. In March 2018 she got the deed to the house on the property and began rehabilitating it. The house and the surrounding landscape have come to serve as an important ground for an itinerant practice informed by travel to her home country Spain and elsewhere, that draws upon landscape, cultural history, and familial history for much of its content.

Sculpture For A Field #5: Sun
March 20, 2022, 8:33 AM and 4:33 PM
Location: (34.199364, -116.365554)
For how we are in time and space: Annotations, Siegle will realize a new work on a Bureau of Land Management plot in Yucca Valley, on March 20, 2022, at 8:33 AM and again at 4:33 PM. Titled Sculpture For A Field #5: Sun, the work draws an ephemeral line in space: “Find the center point of a field, and starting at this point, walk in concentric circles until reaching the edge, gradually increasing diameter.” Sun is part of a trio of artworks Siegle considers to be earthworks, including Dirt Piece, executed in October, 2020, and a work in progress, which he began on March 18, 2020.
