Brenner Park

The mural at this park is titled "Remnants Project," and is
a multi-paneled work of art using images, poetry and narratives. With
guidance from artist Edgar Arceneaux, it was created by neighborhood children
and older youths as a celebration of local history and family stories.

Bob Lucas Memorial Library
2659 N. Lincoln Ave., Altadena, 626.798.7185
Titled "The Reading Wall," this colorful and imaginative mural
on an outside wall of the library is filled with Franklin Elementary students'
poetic words and fantastical images expressing what reading means to them.
Artist Edgar Arceneaux helped the children use literature as inspiration
to create art.

Jackie Robinson Center
1020 N. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena, 626.744.7300
Artist Roderick Sykes guided neighborhood participants including children
and seniors in the creation of this brilliantly colorful mural. Encompassing
almost the entire multi-purpose room at this center, the images depicted
in the mural represent various aspects of the African-American experience.

Jefferson Park
1501 E. Villa St., Pasadena
This 240-square-foot mural titled "The Garden," was produced
by about 30 neighborhood children and youths. Artist Robert Hilton guided
them in the creation of this idyllic garden scene framed in wisteria vines,
with a vista of desert mountains and lakes so that it would be a beautiful
deterrent to graffiti.

Longfellow Elementary School

Painted along one of this school's downstairs hallways is a mural titled
"Under the Sea." This vivid mural filled with sharks, multicolored
fish and sea life was created by Longfellow students from second to sixth
grade. Artist Robert Hilton guided students in this visual exploration
of the ocean environment.

Madison Elementary School

Artists Antoinette Hernandez and Edgar Arceneaux helped neighborhood children
build family stories into a work of art painted in the school's library.
Floating on the walls above and around the bookshelves, children interlaced
their own experiences with stories from their parents and grandparents
in order to create a mural representing this unique community.

McDonald Park
1000 E. Mountain St., Pasadena
At this site, artist Edgar Arceneaux assisted children and older youths
in creating several murals based on various environments. The murals are
painted on bathroom doors and walls, with the main mural depicting Pasadena's
architectural and environmental past. The other murals have jungle, ocean,
forest and desert scenes along with details of local plants and trees.

Washington Park
700 E. Washington Blvd., Pasadena
As part of an anti-graffiti project, artists J. Michael Walker and M.C.
Armstrong helped neighborhood children create a series of multifaceted
murals. Included on the walls are children's poetry and images of people,
celestial bodies, flowers, and abstract patterns based on designs found
in various cultural art.
