Armory Center for the Arts is pleased to announce three new additions to our board of directors. Please join us in welcoming architect Alice Fung, USC's Vice President of Admissions and Planning Katharine Harrington, and art dealer Phil Swan. Armory board members all serve voluntarily and provide oversight and governance of the Armory's mission.
Alice Fung
Principal, Fung + Blatt Architects
Educator, USC Roski School of Art and Design
Alice Fung is an architect and designer whose parallel practices engage varied facets and scales of dimensional design. She is founding principal of FUNG + BLATT Architects who create environments and products for living, learning and creating. Her designs prioritize the human experience, connection to place, inventiveness of material, and investigation into diverse patterns of habitation. Her work has received numerous awards and been featured in the national and international press. Alice taught at Art Center College of Design from 2002 to 2015 and currently serves as a professor of practice at USC’s Roski School of Art and Design.
Katharine Harrington
Vice President of Admissions and Planning, USC
Katharine Harrington became vice president of admissions and planning in August 2010, having previously served as dean of admission and financial aid since 2005. As vice president, she provides oversight for USC’s enrollment activities including admission, financial aid, academic records, and the registrar. She works closely with the provost and others on budget and planning related to tuition revenue, retention and financial aid, and with academic units to continue the improvement of retention, and graduation rates. She also oversees USC’s institutional research activities including the collection, analysis, and reporting of data on institutional quality and outcomes. Harrington holds academic appointments in the USC Marshall School of Business and in the USC Dornsife College. She previously served USC as associate vice provost for academic programs and director of undergraduate retention. In this role she helped administer academic programs across the university, served as the provost’s liaison for the arts schools, and was instrumental in the tremendous improvement in USC’s graduation rates. Prior to joining the Office of the Provost, she worked in the USC Marshall School of Business as associate dean of undergraduate programs and as associate director of the USC Center for Crisis Management. She earned her BS in business administration at the University of Redlands, her MBA from Pepperdine University, and her PhD in religion and social ethics from USC.
Phil Swan
Director of Investor Relations, Griffis Residential
Phil Swan, of Pasadena California, is Director of Investor Relations at Griffis Residential, a private equity real estate firm based in Denver, CO. Previously he held a variety of positions related to sales, marketing and client service at The Capital Group, a global money management firm, in Los Angeles, CA. Phil is past board member and board chair of Audubon California, where he served from 2006 to 2013. He is a trustee and vice chairman of the board of Colorado College, a board member of the Los Angeles Master Chorale and a director of the Della Martin Foundation, the Ann Peppers Foundation and the Cygnet Foundation (the Swan family foundation whose focus is on supporting conservation efforts in Southern California). Phil received a B.A. in History from Colorado College.
