Day, evening, and weekend Fall art classes for adults enrolling now. From plein air painting to cartooning, from silkscreening to letterpress, from darkroom to digital, we are your community art school. Lifelong learners and all skill levels welcomed. Learn basic principles of design and color theory while exploring a wide range of materials and collage techniques. No experience in drawing or painting is necessary and individual expression is encouraged. We’ve also added the element of assemblage so that you can create in both 2-D and 3-D. We are also offering this class on Tuesday evenings.

Learn numerous fun and simple techniques to transfer images, including photographs and plate film development, using silk screening, a process made famous by artists like Shepard Fairey and Andy Warhol. Bring in your own t-shirts, sweatshirts, fabric, wood, paper, or any other flat materials, and transform them into works of art! We’ll be using several DIY techniques to create amazing prints and we’ll discuss the art and the business of silk screening as well.

Gain darkroom skills in our film-based black and white lab. Instruction emphasizes photography skills such as manual film camera controls, exposure methods, and intermediate to advanced printing techniques. In-class use of 35mm film cameras and supplies is included in materials fee. Film development isn't instructed, although a film lab is available for advanced students. We also offer a Thursday evening Digital Photography class.

Learn the art of handmade books with projects ranging from traditional to experimental: Japanese stab binding, accordion book, collaged tunnel books, manipulated found books, and book sculptures. Dig into the history of artists’ books to find inspiration. Bring your own quotes, short poems, or images and craft multiple books and delve into the joy of book arts.

Saturdays (6 Class Meetings)

Experiment with dyeing techniques to create one-of-a-kind wearable and/or functional pieces. Learn shibori, a Japanese resist dye technique. Bind, stitch, fold, twist or compress fabric and salvaged cloth to achieve different patterns and designs. Explore technical elements of working with natural dyes and the fixatives used to set them. Make your own natural dyes from kitchen compostables and foraged plants. Please note: This 4-hour class meets 6 times.
