2017 Events

Join us for a one-night-only pop-up exhibit that illuminates ongoing conversations surrounding youth justice reform, arts engagement, and cultural equity. See work by renowned artists like Ernesto Yerena and Yosi Sergant, plus art made by youth in detention facilities from across the country.

This exhibit is the kick-off event for Create Justice: A National Discussion on Arts and Youth Justice. This two-day national forum is hosted by the Armory and organized by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute and the Arts for Incarcerated Youth Network, of which the Armory is a member. Focused exclusively on arts and youth justice, Create Justice brings together policymakers, artists, funders, activists, researchers, non-profit leaders, and government agencies to collaborate with young people to refine ideas and priorities as they move toward crafting a national plan of action for youth incarceration.

Though the forum is invitation only, the pop-up exhibit is free, open to the public, and will feature art installations, performances, art making, and refreshments.

Create Justice is part of Musical Connections, a program of Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute and a project of The Arts for Incarcerated Youth Network. Create Justice is supported, in part, by an anonymous donor. Create Justice in Los Angeles is supported by The California Endowment. Arts for Incarcerated Youth (AIYN) member organizations include Actors Gang Youth Project, ArtworxLA, Armory Center for the Arts, Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, Jail Guitar Doors, Rhythm Arts Alliance, Street Poets Inc., WriteGirl/Bold Ink Writers,and Unusual Suspects Theatre Company. AIYN partners in the Arts Integration Project with the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and the Los Angeles County Department of Probation.
